Today my daughter asked me why I have a blog and what do I write on it. That made me think oh no, I didn’t manage to write anything on it since the start of the year.
However, I explained to her that this is purely for me to go and read for later. Memories that are special today and might be more special as I grow old.
She asked me if I share her photos or videos online. I’ve told her I haven’t shared her videos, but I share the back of her head photos most of the time. Not her face, so as not to reveal her identity.
She’s learning about online safety at school and she told me that she does not want any of her videos shared. I also told her I’ve thought about this a couple of times and decided not to share much of her photos online.
I asked her if she thinks it’s okay for me to share her photos, she was okay. However, I’ve told her that even if she’s okay with it (she has the right to tell yes or no), but as an adult responsible for her, I have to make the decision not to share. She agreed that she would do the same if it was her child. So, I felt comfortable talking to her about that.
Though WhatsApp is also a social media, I’ve not refrained from sharing there yet, due to staying away from friends and family. I have to think about a more secure way of sharing personal photos.
She had her first eye check-up today. I was concerned about her complaining about her itchy eyes and constant rubbing of the eyes. She fell last week and hurt her head, though she was adamant it was an accident, I told her it’s best to get checked up. Since she wanted glasses (because some of her friends have it and it’s cool), she was excited to visit the optician).
She didn’t want her eye check up to end because it was very interesting. I asked her if she has any questions for the optician. She asked him how did he study to become an ophthalmologist. He told her that he’s an optician, but he decided to become one after his first appointment at the age of 16.
I asked her if she’s interested, she could look do this as well. We’ve come from becoming a teacher, to a martial arts teacher, a ballet dancer, to a garbage collector, to an optician now. This is giving her an opportunity to explore and learn about various professions and skills that are involved in creating and helping people. This journey is special and it counts, that’s all.
